In 1985 harmonica player Jim Rosen and vocalist Susan O’Neil set out to gather the best musicians they could get to form their dream Blues band.

The original line-up of musicians consisted of Jim Rosen harmonica and vocals, Susan O’Neil vocals, Andy Brauner guitar, Gene Wickliffe drums, and B.G. Johnson bass. Subsequently Brauner and B. G. left the band and current guitarist Rob Pickett joined the group and remains the lead guitarist to this day.

Early on the band went through a series of bass players but finally settled in with Larry Holt, adding Doug Lamb, keyboardist to the group. This line-up of musicians made up the premier band that enjoyed a large and loyal following for many years.

O’Neil left the group in 1992 and Larry Holt followed shortly after.   At this juncture the musical line-up was Jim Rosen harmonica and vocals, Gene Wickliffe drums, Rob Pickett guitar, Doug Lamb keyboard & vocals, and Brendan Lewis bass.

Doug Lamb left the group in the mid ‘90’s and the band carried on through that decade building a loyal following and remaining very popular.

Basist Wayne Carver joined the group after Brendan Lewis left the band.  During this time da Mudcats secured a sponsorship from Budweiser and performed under their sponsorship in the Bud tent at the Kentucky State Fair and regionally.

In 1998 da Mudcats suffered the devastating loss of bandleader, lead vocalist, harmonica player Jim Rosen to cancer.  Shortly after that Wayne left the band and moved to Las Vegas.

Gene Wickliffe and Rob Pickett continue to play the Blues in Jim’s honor and were joined by bassist Mike Lynch. Their following is loyal and far reaching as they remain one of Louisville’s favorite Blues bands and continue to delight audiences with traditional music from Blues greats like Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Koko Taylor, BB King, Charlie Musslewhite and Robert Johnson to name a few. They also share their own brand of Blues through originals penned individually and collectively by drawing on the classic Blues form.

Throughout the years da Mudcats have been fortunate enough to record and perform in countless venues and festivals. They have shared the stage and have been the opening act for national Blues recording artist like Albert King, Elvin Bishop, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor and many more.

In 2006 da Mudcats were honored with the prestigious Sylvester Weaver Award that is presented annually by the KYANA Blues Society to artists that are dedicated to presenting, preserving and performing the Blues.

The band has continued it’s musical journey, writing songs, recording and performing in regional clubs and festivals.

Fast forward to 2014 and da Mudcats have come full circle.

Gene, Rob and Mike are excited to announce that they have reunited with former band mates, founding member and vocalist Susan O’Neil and Doug Lamb, keyboard and vocals, as permanent members of the group!

Since their departure in the 90’s Susan and Doug have performed special shows with Da Mudcats on occasion. These special shows have delighted and excited audiences every time as they add to the already potent tight sound of Da Mudcats.

Susan and Doug are excited and anxious to blend their years of musical performance and their love for the Blues once again with their much loved band mates.
